Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if Fourth Canyon is the right company to produce my video or multi-media project?
Do you like our demo reel/samples? Have we worked with clients on similar projects? Has Fourth Canyon responded to your questions? Did you feel comfortable talking with our contact person?
How much does a video cost?
The short answer is: it depends. There are a vast number of variables that affect the cost of a video. Some of them are: pre-production, number of shooting days, availability of stock footage, narration, travel, graphics, animation and editing. Some videos may require travel. Others use actors, custom-designed sets and props. Though the cost can vary dramatically, most videos cost somewhere between $1,500 to $5,000 per finished minute.
How much does it cost to produce a CD-ROM, website or other multi-media project?
Again, it depends. Are you going to use existing video footage, a lot of animation, copywrited music or complex computer graphics? Each CD-ROM has its own price. That said, the CD-ROMs we’ve produced in the past have cost between $5,000 and $55,000. The best way to get a true picture of how much a project will cost is to meet with us, give us the specifics and ask for an estimate.
How do we get started?
When you want a video or other communications project, the process begins with a meeting. During that meeting we’ll ask you about:
- the purpose of your video
- your target audience
- what you want to say
- how long you want it to be
- if you want the video to have other uses – for instance on a CD-ROM or website
- your budget and deadline
What happens then?
Every video, CD-ROM or website begins with a script. Our scriptwriter will write a first draft of the script including some preliminary ideas for visuals and interviews. Then, we’ll get together again. We’ll go through re-writes until the script meets your approval.
OK, the script is approved. Where do we go from there?
Once the script is approved, we’ll sit down to talk about production. We’ll discuss where the footage should be shot and what on-camera interviews you’d like. We’ll work with you to arrange a shooting schedule that is efficient. Once all the footage is shot, editing begins.
What happens after the footage is shot?
You can be as involved as you’d like in the editing process…with the approved script in hand and the video all shot, we edit the production and schedule an approval consult….the program is then completed with credits and sent off to the duplicators or replicators of your choice.
How long does it take to produce a video?
Just as price can vary substantially, so can the time it takes to complete a project. Careful pre-production planning can help shorten the time frame. It’s also helpful to have a limited number of people involved in the approval process.
